Happy Thanksgiving my American friends! I’m extremely thankful for a four day weekend because I still have a LOT to do before I launch my redesign. Oh bedsidesigners, you are in for a treat. I cannot wait to share the story behind the redesign. My thoughts and process this month, and the behind the scene journey of switching from wordpress.com to wordpress.org. I remember before I launched my own happiness blog project I had a conversation with my husband. I kept saying, “I want to take bedsidesign to the next level and I’m so limited with the .com version.” I had no idea where to begin. I was so scared of failing. I was terrified of making the leap. The dot-com is easy. It’s familiar. I don’t have a huge blogging budget and I didn’t want to dig a hole for something I couldn’t afford to maintain. Thankfully right around this big conversation I got a bonus at my day job. Cha-ching! The amount was just what I needed to kick it up a notch. As I’m coming to the end of my redesign, and preparing to launch a new look, site, and some extra secrets [yay for secrets] I am completely thankful that I am able to do this. Today I am trying to be present in all of this. So as I am feeling inspired and excited I just want to remind you to:
Check out my other daring blog friends who are linking up on this holiday.
Well kids this week my copy of The Happiness Project came! I dove right in and all the praise is well deserved. I’m really enjoying it. I’m equally loving this link up so if you are a blogger you should seriously consider joining!
Even though I just started the book it doesn’t mean that I have to wait until I’m done reading to be happy! So often I feel like people [myself included!] procrastinate on happiness because they are waiting for a special timeframe when life is easier and it’ll just miraculously fit into their schedule. Believe me, we’ll all be waiting a very long time! I love this quote by Walt Whitman about happiness. There’s nothing wrong with planning but if you are so busy always planning your life you’ll miss it.
My mom called yesterday and the topic of happiness came up. She was asking me what would make me happy?
It’s great because I feel like I’m in a really positive place. I’ve been stepping out in ways that I haven’t before. I am intentionally working towards certain goals. I think if I was in a negative place I would be quicker to make irrational and unrealistic goals. I think personality also plays a key role in all of this, and I loved this post on the Alt blog about the 12 most striking tendencies of creative people. I think my favorite was #12 – Aren’t Alone. Through this linkup and other blogging networks I’m finally feeling like I’m not alone is this big blogging world, and that makes me happy.
One place that I would love to network and meet other awesome creative people is at Alt. I’ve followed Alt for a while and always wanted to go. By the time I realized they would be in NY they were sold out…bummer. I’m hopinggggg [pretty please with cherries on top!] that I win this free ticket because that would seriously make me HAPPY! For blogging inspiration and business advice check out the new Alt blog.
Sometimes I don’t follow through on paintings, designs or even when I try to rearrange furniture. I can be a perfectionist and that squashes creativity. I love this print by Kimsey Price [seriously check her out she has a lot of awesome designs] that uses a quote from Edwin H. Land [he created the Polaroid filter and instant photography so he’s kind of a big deal!].
What stops you from moving forward with a creative idea or project?
Do you ever go through waves of creativity? Confession: sometimes I don’t feel inspired. That is one of the reasons why I do blog to continually be in a habit of looking for inspiration and simultaneously try to inspire others. I love the idea to “create something new today” because sometimes I need an extra push to create.
Is it really Wednesday already? Boy do I feel like summer is flying by!
I’m a firm believer that beauty and design are often hidden in plain sight. I love looking for little details that may be overlooked at first glance. It brings me joy to notice things like the “heart of Syracuse” on top of a building or a funky pattern of a co-workers shoes. Life is always moving so fast but it takes being intentional to slow down appreciate these little details. Take the time today to look around you – you might just be surprised by the beauty.
This is quite a busy week for us so please excuse my random posts. We are moving on Saturday and we are finishing up on all the packing. Today will be the first time we actually see our apartment. We saw a model but the apartment layout that is available is slightly different. After a lot of back and forth we are finally able to see it this afternoon. So, today’s inspiration is brought to you by Play On Words Art.
Keep your fingers crossed, hopefully the apartment is great!
The truth is sometimes growing is uncomfortable, but the end results are usually extremely worth it. While it’s gardening season consider being more consistent in your current situation. I used to struggle with being “present” and I would always look to the next thing on the horizon. But, sometimes there is beauty to be found right where you are.
I love this quote by William Shakespeare, and I thought it was very fitting since it’s less than a week away from Valentine’s Day! What music do you listen to on romantic dates? I’ve created some playlists through Pandora and now anytime my husband and I listen to my stations I feel like we should be in the 20s, or 40s, or even 50s with the crooner style and soul (I guess that’s what happens when you listen repeatedly to Adele, She & Him, and Regina Spektor).
Keeping with the trend of Valentine’s Day and love – tonight I discovered 6 of the most adorable e-cards on West Elm.
Send an e-card to your own crush- so fun, so cute, and did I mention free?!

Whenever I’m stressed I worry. Those two go hand in hand for me. When I’m stressed I can’t enjoy the things that are right in front of my face, I get too preoccupied. Here are some wise words from one of my favorite authors.
So if you are having a rough day, or you just can’t wait to the weekend – hang in there. What are some of your favorite quotes that inspire you?
