Today’s Color Emphasis features one of my favorite color combinations…black and cream. Classy, understated and timeless:
one: Black + cream + hearts + cardigan = what’s more to love?
two: The shape, the style, the size heel, and the color blocking. Yes to it all!
three: What a petite makeup bag. The bow makes it extra feminine.
four: Classic and bold, this stripe pillow would be perfect in our living room.
five: A color blocked server? Imagine the pretty food to be served on this!
six: Peter Pan built-in collar and a dress under $30? This would be such a cute dress to wear on a date.
seven: And if you are going on a date you don’t need to get all matchy-matchy but a nice silk tie would be just fine boi.
eight: It’s getting cold here, which means I now have an excuse for my scarf obsession. Little bits of metallic woven through this makes it extra special.
I love the color green. I specifically love kelly green [maybe it’s the Irish in me]. I think it is super classy and versatile. Today we are playing a little “this or that” as we gear towards winter. Which ones do you prefer?
We are talking about chrome today – nope, not the browser. You might be thinking, “more metallics? Christie, are you obsessed?” and the answer is yes. I sure am! I love the way that metallics pump up the drama and take on a modern look in a second.
one: I love arching floor lamps and this one stole my heart. Not only is is metallic but the shape and size are exactly what I am looking for.
three: Why not make your iPhone super flashy? It could probably double as a mirror too!
four: Duck tape. Hello craftiness potential!
five: Old school style. I love this watch.
six: One of my “adult” goals is to have a closet with matching hangers. These feel uber sophisticated.
seven: Trash doesn’t have to bring you down. Cover it in a shiny container.
eight: This is GENIUS. Do you know what it is? Yeah, it’s a ring holder. Way too cool.
What do you think of chrome? Would you decorate or wear it?
Halloween is tomorrow and instead of filling up the Color Emphasis with a bunch of Halloween I decided to just highlight the color palette. My decor style is much more passive than decorating for a ton of holidays. I prefer to wear or decorate with colors and objects that can last longer than just a 1 day holiday. Here are some of my favorite orange items with little pops of black here and there.
From a super sassy top to a textured rug the top-tier look stylish and comfortable. And now for the eclectic accessories. Coffee is a big deal in our home and this cute [and super affordable] french press would certainly add a great burst of color in our kitchen. Who says your trash has to be boring? Why not use it as an opportunity to add some style, like this little guy. Makin’ food? Make it in this spiffy skillet. Orange, gold, and black sunglasses? Do they really need any explanation? I’ve always loved pin-tuck pillows and this burst of orange is a perfect shade. In my opinion Pantone never goes out of style. And last but certainly not least, taking a trip? Even your passport should be dressed to impress.
Are you crushing on orange?
I’m a big fan of all shades of gray, especially heather gray. I asked Ian what manly items he would wear, because he looks awesome in gray. It seems like Express is the best place for all sorts of gray-man clothing. I’m totally loving that cardigan, boy my guy has good taste. I love a fitted, Mad Men inspired dress and I think I need to find one just like this. On cold fall or wintery days when the sky is gray, pull that color into your living room with a cozy reading nook. Set it up with a comfy chair, warm blanket and texturized pillow.
How do you wear gray?
I am a biggg fan of turquoise. From jewelry to home decor I think this color can look extremely retro or nice and modern. I tend to lean more towards a blue turquoise instead a green one. I love pairing this with oranges, or even taupe. What do you think of turquoise, are you a fan?
Since I first started doing this while Color Emphasis series it started with cobalt on the list. As each week passes I think hmm…we should wait that one out. But, the waiting is over. I finally decided on my favorite cobalt blue items and this roundup is stylish, modern, and totally me. From a sheer button-down to simplistic stud earrings these eclectic items are electric!
What do you think of cobalt? Would you ever wear it, decorate with it or send out some stationery with it? Send your recommendations for upcoming Color Emphasis posts to bedsidesign [at] gmail [dot] come with “Color Emphasis” in the subject. Find more color inspiration here and on pinterest!
As I was thinking about what color to feature this week I stumbled [again] across that kitchen that has been EVERYWHERE! My jaw literally dropped the first time I saw the house tour. It was clear what needed to happen…a minty-sage green roundup, of course!
Now that autumn is finally here I’m ready for saturated colors that speak to fall tones. Burgundy is the first color that I think captures my current fall mood, plus to be able to mention the great Ron Burgundy is also an added excuse [hence #1]. What do you think of this bold color?
Maybe it’s because my brother just purchased an awesome leather couch set and so I have leather couches on the brain that I am completely smitten by this couch. I love how burgundy can transcend and have more of a masculine feel. What do you think?
